World 2 - Galuf's World

You wake up on a small island with nothing but ocean around you. Bartz, Lenna, and Faris are stranded; Galuf's nowhere to be seen. This is World 2, Galuf's home, and you've been dumped here without a way forward. ## The Solitary Island The island's tiny. A tent near the shore has some supplies, and there's a recovery spring if you need healing. But that's it. No ship, no airship, no way off. Walk around and you'll trigger a scene with the party wondering how to proceed. After some exploration, a ship appears on the horizon. It's Galuf with an army of soldiers. He's the king of Bal Castle, one of the Dawn Warriors who sealed Exdeath 30 years ago. His memory's returned completely now, and he's here to rescue you. ## Galuf's Backstory The Dawn Warriors were four heroes from this world who trapped Exdeath using the crystals from both worlds. Galuf traveled to your world to monitor the seal, but lost his memory in the meteorite crash. The other three Dawn Warriors are Dorgann (Bartz's father, now deceased), Kelger, and Xezat. Exdeath was imprisoned within a tree in the Great Forest of Moore. With the crystals shattered, he's free again. And he's already conquered most of World 2. ## Castle of Bal The ship takes you to Bal Castle, Galuf's kingdom. The castle's fully stocked with shops and an inn. Upgrade your equipment here; the enemies in World 2 hit harder than anything in World 1. The weapon shop has better swords and rods. Talk to everyone in the castle. You'll learn that Krile, Galuf's granddaughter, is the one who sensed something wrong and urged him to rescue you. She'll be important later. Check the basement for a few chests and a save point. The scholars in the library provide details about Exdeath's origins. He's not human; he's the accumulated malice of evil souls that was sealed in a tree centuries ago. The tree gained sentience and became Exdeath. That's why the Great Forest is so significant. ## Castle Exdeath Exterior Your next objective is Castle Exdeath, where the warlock has set up his base. Galuf's forces are preparing an assault, but they need help. Head west from Bal Castle across the bridge to reach the castle exterior. The approach to Castle Exdeath is guarded by powerful monsters. Abductors can be dangerous if you let them get Countdown off. Kill them fast or use instant death if you have it. The Reflect Knights bounce magic back, so stick to physical attacks or Dispel them first. You can't enter the castle from the front; the barrier is too strong. After approaching the gates, a cutscene triggers where Galuf's army attempts a frontal assault. It fails badly. Exdeath's forces are overwhelming, and the party realizes they need another approach. ## Big Bridge Preview Galuf mentions the Big Bridge as an alternate route into Exdeath's territory. But first, you'll need to find a way across the barrier surrounding the castle. The barrier is maintained by four towers around the perimeter. Taking them out might weaken the defenses enough to get through. For now, return to Bal Castle and rest. Stock up on Hi-Potions and Phoenix Downs. The fights ahead are tough, and you'll want a full supply before pushing forward. ## Party Observations At this point, Galuf has permanently rejoined the party. His job levels and abilities from World 1 carry over completely. If you had him learning Black Magic or building up Knight skills, all that progress is intact. World 2 enemies give significantly more EXP and ABP than World 1. If your job levels feel low, now's a good time to grind near Bal Castle. The enemies aren't too dangerous, and the ABP adds up quickly. Consider which jobs you want to focus on. Chemist's !Mix is extremely powerful with the right item combinations. Samurai's !Zeninage destroys random encounters if you have the gil. Time Mage with Hastega and Slowga makes boss fights much more manageable. The next chapter covers Castle Exdeath proper, where you'll face Gilgamesh for the first time. ## Treasure Chests
