Barrier Tower

The barrier around Castle Exdeath is powered by four towers. Taking them out will weaken the defenses and let the allied forces push through. This tower is one of those four. ## Reaching the Tower After escaping Castle Exdeath and crossing Big Bridge, you'll eventually regroup at a base camp. The strategy is to split up and assault multiple barrier towers simultaneously. Your party handles this one. The tower entrance is straightforward. No puzzles, just a vertical climb with enemies on every floor. Save before entering; there's no recovery point until after the boss. ## Tower Layout The tower has 12 floors. Straight shot up with occasional side rooms containing treasure. The Blood Sword on 4F is notable; it drains HP with each hit and can sustain a character without healing. Great for physical attackers. Enemies here include Wall Knights with permanent Reflect status. Magic bounces off them, so use physical attacks or Dispel before casting. Level Trickers use Level 5 Death; if any party member's level is divisible by 5, they'll die instantly. Either avoid being level 25, 30, etc., or kill them before they act. The Traveler enemies can be a source of Blue Magic. They use Time Slip, which inflicts Sleep and Old. Useful against some bosses if you want to learn it. ## Gold Hairpin The chest on 10F contains a Gold Hairpin. This accessory halves MP costs for all magic. Equip it on your primary caster immediately. The difference between 30 MP Curaga and 15 MP Curaga adds up fast in long dungeons. ## Atomos At the top of the tower, Atomos guards the barrier generator. This boss has a nasty gimmick involving your knocked-out party members.
Atomos
HP: 19997

A demonic entity that slowly pulls KO'd characters toward it. Once pulled in, they're gone for the rest of the fight. Also casts Comet for heavy damage.

Strategy

  • Revive KO'd characters immediately; Wormhole removes them permanently
  • Slow it down with Time Magic; Slow or Slowga reduces pull speed
  • The Bard's Romeo's Ballad can stop it entirely if it lands
  • High sustained damage wins; don't hold back on abilities

Rewards: 12000 EXP, 6000 Gil

The Wormhole mechanic is stressful. If a character dies and you don't revive them quickly, Atomos pulls them across the battlefield and swallows them. They're gone for the battle. Keep Phoenix Downs and Raise ready. Comet deals random damage to random targets. Sometimes it's 200 damage; sometimes it's 2000. Luck plays a role here. Keep everyone's HP high so no single Comet can kill from full health. Dark Arts users can try Dark Shock to reduce its level, then Level 5 Death for instant kill. It's risky but works if you have the setup. ## Destroying the Barrier After defeating Atomos, approach the generator and interact with it. The barrier weakens. Your job here is done, but the other three towers still need to fall. Return to base camp. Depending on where you are in the game's sequence, you might head directly to Moore Forest next, or there may be other objectives. The barrier tower sequence can vary slightly based on how events unfold. ## Job Recommendations By now you should have substantial ABP invested in World 2. Consider these ability combinations: - **Knight with !White Magic** - Tanky healer who can Cover squishy mages - **Black Mage with !Time** - Haste yourself, then blast with -aga spells - **Monk with !Focus** - Bare-handed damage doubled by Focus is massive - **Chemist with anything** - !Mix is broken; combine Dragon Fangs with Phoenix Downs for incredible buffs The next chapter covers the Forest of Moore, one of the game's most significant story locations. ## Treasure Chests
