Walse is a prosperous kingdom whose water crystal powers their economy. But there's trouble - Walse Tower has risen from the lake, and the crystal is in danger.
Walse Town
Land Hiryu outside town and head in. The shops here sell decent upgrades. Notable buys include Mythril equipment (swords, armor, shields) and level 3 spells for your mages. The inn is 160 Gil if you need to rest.
Grab Fira, Blizzara, and Thundara for your Black Mage. These upgraded elemental spells make a big difference in damage output. For White Mages, Confuse can be situationally useful.
Walse Castle
Head to the castle to meet King Walse. He's hesitant to stop using the crystal's power despite the danger. After your meeting, a meteor crashes near the tower - something's wrong.
Explore the castle for chests before leaving. The Elven Mantle is a solid accessory that increases evasion. Check the basement for additional items.
Shiva Summon (Optional)
In the castle basement waterway, you can fight Shiva to gain her as a summon. She's in the B3 area behind a waterfall.
Ice summon boss with three Ice Commander minions. Standard elemental weakness to Fire.
Strategy
- Spam Fira - she's weak to fire and it hits all enemies
- Kill the Ice Commanders first; they cast Blizzard and stack damage quickly
- Alternatively, focus Shiva and the Commanders die with her
Rewards: Shiva summon, 5 ABP
Water Crystal Jobs
After completing Walse Tower (next chapter), the Water Crystal shatters and grants four new jobs:
- Time Mage - Haste, Slow, Stop, and gravity spells. Extremely versatile
- Summoner - Calls summons like Shiva and Chocobo for powerful attacks
- Red Mage - Uses both white and black magic up to level 3
- Berserker - Auto-attacks with high power, but you can't control them
Time Mage is particularly valuable. Haste doubles a character's turns, and Slow/Stop can trivialize many fights.
Treasure Chests

Next Steps
Head to Walse Tower northeast of the castle. This is a missable dungeon - once you complete it, the tower sinks and you can't return. Make sure to encounter all enemy types and grab all chests before fighting the boss.
