The Library of Ancients holds knowledge about the crystals and the evil they sealed away. You'll meet Mid (Cid's grandson), fight Ifrit for his summon, and uncover the truth about Exdeath.
Library Layout
The library is a maze of bookshelves across three floors. The books themselves are enemies; Page 32, Page 64, Page 128, and Page 256 attack when you examine certain shelves. They're weak to Fire, appropriately enough for paper monsters.
Blue Mages can learn Level 5 Death from Page 64 - it instantly kills any enemy whose level is a multiple of 5. Extremely useful later.
Ifrit Battle
On the second floor, you'll find Ifrit terrorizing the scholars. He's been corrupted by dark magic.
Fire summon boss. Standard elemental weakness to ice.
Strategy
- Cast Shiva or Blizzara repeatedly. Ice destroys him
- His Fira hurts but isn't fatal if you keep HP up
- Heal when below 200 HP; he can spike damage
Rewards: Ifrit summon, 5 ABP
After defeating Ifrit, he joins you as a summon. Fire-elemental damage to all enemies; great for clearing groups.
Boss: Byblos
Continue to the third floor to find Mid being attacked by Byblos, a demon guarding the ancient texts.
Book demon with high magic defense and nasty status effects.
Strategy
- Weak to Fire - Ifrit and Fira tear through him
- Immune to most other elements
- Uses Discharge to drain MP; keep reserves if possible
- Magic Hammer cuts your max MP; dangerous if it hits your healer
Rewards: 6 ABP
The Truth About Exdeath
After Byblos, Mid and the scholars explain. 30 years ago, a warlock named Exdeath threatened the world. The Dawn Warriors sealed him using the power of the four crystals - split between two worlds. The crystals are failing because Exdeath's seal is weakening.
Galuf's memory starts returning. He was one of the Dawn Warriors.
