After exiting Altar Cave, head south across the world map to find your first town, Ur. This is your home village - the four orphans grew up here under the care of Elder Topapa.
Ur - Your Home Village
Ur is a small village with shops, an inn, and several hidden treasures. Start by exploring thoroughly before heading to Kazus.
The Well
Talk to the old lady standing by the well in town. She'll let you climb down. The well contains 3 chests with Potions - an easy pickup for your supplies.
Special Event
Near the blue-roofed house in the bottom-left of town, you'll find a wizard who appears unwell. Use a Potion on him to heal his ailment - he'll reward you with Echo Herbs as thanks.
Shopping
Ur has basic shops for early equipment:
- Weapon Shop: Knives, Staves, Nunchaku
- Armor Shop: Leather equipment
- Magic Shop: Cure, Poisona (buy Cure if you missed the chest)
- Item Shop: Potions, Antidotes, Eye Drops
With the 2000 Gil from Altar Cave's hidden path, you can afford decent equipment. Prioritize armor upgrades for your front-line fighters and stock up on Potions.
Kazus - The Cursed Town
Exit Ur and head south to Kazus. As you enter, you'll notice something strange - the townspeople are ghosts. A curse has befallen Kazus, turning everyone into spirits. They can still talk and interact with you, but they're stuck as translucent phantoms.
Meeting Cid
Head to the inn and speak with the ghost inside. This is Cid, the legendary airship engineer. He tells you his airship is in the desert to the west, but he can't fly it while cursed. To lift the curse, you'll need to defeat the Djinn in the Sealed Cave - but first, you need the Mythril Ring from Castle Sasune.
The Blacksmith
In the northern house, you'll find a ghostly blacksmith. He mentions he could upgrade the airship with a Mythril Ram if he had the materials. Remember this for later - you'll return after breaking the curse.
Equipment Recommendations
Before heading to Castle Sasune, make sure your party is properly equipped:
- Warriors: Longsword (from Altar Cave or Ur), Leather Shield, Leather Armor, Bronze Bracers
- Monk: Nunchaku or bare fists, Leather Armor
- White Mage: Staff, Leather Armor, Mythril Helm (from Kazus)
- Black Mage: Staff, Leather Armor
Stock up on at least 10 Potions and a few Antidotes. Castle Sasune has challenging encounters, especially in the towers.
