Canaan

After lifting the Djinn's curse and obtaining the Canoe from King Sasune, return to Kazus before heading to Canaan. Cid rejoins your party and points you toward the airship upgrade you'll need to progress.

Return to Kazus

Back in Kazus, Cid is waiting for you. He mentions that the blacksmith can install a Mythril Prow on your airship, allowing you to break through the rocks blocking the path north. Head to the northern house in Kazus and talk to the blacksmith. He'll install the upgrade for free - the rebellion owes you that much after defeating the Djinn.

With the Mythril Prow installed, your airship can now smash through small rock formations on the world map. This opens up the route to Canaan and Dragon's Peak.

Mythril Mines

Before heading to Canaan, stop at the Mythril Mines located just north of Kazus. This short dungeon contains valuable equipment for your party.

On the first floor, look for a button on the wall - interact with it to open a hidden passage. Descend to B2 where you'll find two chests, each containing a Mythril Sword. These are solid upgrades for your Warriors or Red Mages. There are no enemies in the mines, so this is free loot.

Canaan Town

Fly north through the rocks you can now destroy with the Mythril Prow. Canaan sits in a valley surrounded by mountains. This town has several hidden items you don't want to miss.

Hidden Items

Canaan has 3 hidden items that won't show on your minimap - you need to search for them manually.

  • Gold Needle: Enter the door to the right of the inn. Follow the hidden path along the wall to find this item.
  • Mallet: In the same building, check the pot to the left of the fireplace.
  • Elixir: This is the most valuable hidden item. Head to the stairs in the northeast part of town that lead into the water. Follow the stream and go down the waterfall on the southeast side. Search the small area at the bottom to find the Elixir.

Important: Do not use this Elixir on your party. You'll need it for a quest in a moment. If you already have an Elixir from elsewhere, you can save this one for later, but the waterfall Elixir is the most convenient to grab.

Cid's Wife

Find Cid's house in town - he's standing by his bedridden wife, Aliss. She's gravely ill and needs medicine. Use the Elixir you found in the waterfall on her. She'll recover, and Cid expresses his gratitude.

With his wife healed, Cid steps aside. Interact with the torch behind where he was standing to reveal a hidden passage. This leads to the airship hangar.

Airship Hangar

The hangar contains your upgraded airship and 8 treasure chests. Open them all before boarding.

Secret Passage

Look for a hidden passage leading out of the hangar area. This passage contains 4 more chests with useful supplies.

With all 12 chests in the Canaan area collected and your airship ready, you're prepared to head north to Dragon's Peak. Stock up on supplies at the shops if needed - you'll face Bahamut at the peak, though that encounter isn't what it seems.

Treasure Summary

This chapter has 12 chests (2 in Mythril Mines, 8 in the hangar, 4 in the secret passage) and 3 hidden items (Gold Needle, Mallet, Elixir). The hidden items don't count toward the chest total but are required for the hidden items trophy.
