Dragon's Peak

Dragon's Peak looms north of Canaan, home to powerful flying monsters and the dragon king, Bahamut. This dungeon introduces 4 new bestiary entries and ends with an encounter that tests your judgment rather than your combat skills.

Bestiary Entries

Dragon's Peak introduces 4 new monster types. Make sure to encounter each one for bestiary completion.

  • Firefly (017): Common flying insect enemy. Weak but can appear in groups.
  • Helldiver (018): Aggressive bird that uses diving attacks.
  • Rust Bird (019): Can inflict status effects. Take them down quickly.
  • Rukh (020): Large bird enemy. More durable than the others but not dangerous if you've been keeping up with equipment.

Fight enough battles on the peak to register all four enemies before reaching the summit. Missing any here means backtracking later.

Climbing the Peak

The path through Dragon's Peak is linear but long. From the entrance, you'll descend a lengthy stairway. Partway down, grab the first Gold Needle from a chest.

At the first fork, take the northern path to find a chest containing the Aero spell. This is a solid wind-elemental attack magic that you should teach to your Black Mage or Red Mage.

Return to the main path and continue toward the summit. Before reaching the boss area, you'll find one more Gold Needle chest along the main route.

Bahamut

Boss: Bahamut HP: ??? (Unwinnable)

The Dragon King awaits at the summit. He's not here to test your strength - at least not yet.

Strategy

  • You MUST run from this fight. You cannot win.
  • Bahamut's Megaflare will wipe your party instantly if you try to fight.
  • Select "Run" immediately when the battle begins.
  • This is a scripted encounter - fleeing is the intended solution.

Note: You'll return to face Bahamut much later in the game when you're actually capable of defeating him. For now, escape is the only option.

At the summit, you'll encounter Bahamut, the Dragon King. This fight is completely unwinnable at your current level. Bahamut's Megaflare attack deals massive damage to your entire party - far more than you can survive or heal through. Do not waste items trying to fight him.

When the battle starts, immediately select Run. Your party will flee, and the story will progress. This is the intended outcome - you're not meant to defeat Bahamut yet.

Desch Joins

After fleeing from Bahamut, you'll find Desch, a mysterious man who was also at the peak. He has amnesia and can't remember his past, but he knows he needs to travel with you. Desch joins as a guest party member.

More importantly, Desch gives you the Mini spell. This spell shrinks your entire party to tiny size, allowing you to enter small passages and locations that would otherwise be inaccessible. You'll need this immediately for the next destination: the village of Tozus.

Key Item: The Mini spell is essential for progression. Cast it on your party before entering any Mini-sized locations. Remember to cast it again to return to normal size afterward - staying Mini in combat makes you extremely vulnerable.

Treasure Summary

Dragon's Peak has 3 chests total: 2 Gold Needles and 1 Aero spell. The Gold Needles cure petrification, which becomes useful in upcoming dungeons. Aero provides your first wind-elemental attack magic.

With Desch in your party and Mini in hand, head south to find Tozus. You'll need to be small to enter.
