From Kazus, head west across the world map toward the desert. You'll see Castle Sasune to the north, but first you need to find Cid's airship. Walk through the desert until you spot a small aircraft - that's Cid's airship. Board it and fly north to Castle Sasune.
New enemies in the wooded area east of Castle Sasune:
- Killer Bee (Entry 005) - Flying enemy, can poison
- Werewolf (Entry 006) - Aggressive, hits hard
- Berserker (Entry 007) - High attack power
Castle Sasune
Castle Sasune is under the same curse as Kazus - all inhabitants are ghosts. King Sasune and Princess Sara are among those affected. The castle has two towers (Western and Eastern) and a main keep with several hidden paths.
Western Tower - Wightslayer
Start with the Western Tower. On 3F, you'll find two chests containing Holy Arrow and Hi-Potion. Continue to 4F where a suspicious chest awaits.
Monster-in-a-Box: Opening the 4F chest triggers a fight with a Griffon (Entry 037). This flying creature is moderately tough but manageable with your current party. Defeat it to claim the Wightslayer - a sword that deals bonus damage to undead enemies. Extremely useful for the Sealed Cave.
Eastern Tower - Supplies
The Eastern Tower has simpler loot. On 3F, collect Eye Drops and an Antidote. The top floor has three chests: Phoenix Down, Bow, and Wooden Arrow. The bow is useful if you have a character who wants to attack from the back row.
Main Castle
In the main castle on 2F, look for a hidden path along the wall. Follow it to find three chests containing Leather Shield, Blizzard (ice spell), and Tonfa (monk weapon).
North of 2F is a small room with stairs. Head down to find two chests with 1000 Gil each.
Speaking with the King
Find King Sasune's ghost in the throne room. He explains the curse came from the Djinn, a monster sealed in the cave to the north. Princess Sara went to confront the Djinn alone. The king asks you to rescue her and defeat the Djinn to break the curse.
Sealed Cave
Fly the airship north of Castle Sasune to find the Sealed Cave. This dungeon is filled with undead enemies - equip the Wightslayer on a Warrior for bonus damage.
Enemies in the Sealed Cave:
- Mummy (Entry 011) - Slow undead, vulnerable to fire
- Skeleton (Entry 012) - Basic undead warrior
- Cursed Copper (Entry 013) - Can curse your party
- Larva (Entry 014) - Weak but numerous
- Shadow (Entry 015) - Elusive ghost-type
- Revenant (Entry 016) - RARE, mostly on B3
Bestiary Warning: The Revenant is a rare enemy that only appears in the Sealed Cave, primarily on B3. If you're completing the bestiary, spend extra time on B3 fighting random encounters until you encounter one. This is your only chance to register it.
B1
From the entrance, take the south path to find a chest with a Potion. Then head to the room at the top of the floor for a Cure spell tome. Proceed to B2.
B2
On B2, head to the bottom right corner for a chest with 500 Gil. In the upper-right area of the floor, you'll find a pile of bones. Interact with it to discover Princess Sara! She joins your party temporarily and insists on continuing to face the Djinn.
B3
The final floor before the boss. Take the southern path to collect an Antarctic Wind. Along the path toward the boss room, pick up Eye Drops. Remember to fight encounters here if you haven't found the Revenant yet.
Boss: Djinn
At the end of B3, the Djinn awaits.
The source of the curse plaguing Kazus and Castle Sasune. A powerful fire-based enemy.
Strategy
- Weakness: Ice - use Blizzard spells and Antarctic Wind items
- Have your White Mage focus on healing; Djinn hits hard
- The Wightslayer deals normal damage (Djinn isn't undead)
- Physical attackers should use standard attacks between heals
- Sara will assist with healing during the fight
Rewards: Curse lifted, Sara joins permanently (temporarily)
After the Battle
After defeating the Djinn, the curse on Kazus and Castle Sasune lifts. Sara uses her magic to teleport the party back to Castle Sasune. Speak with King Sasune - now restored to his human form - to receive the Mythril Ring (a key item) and the Canoe.
The Canoe allows you to travel on rivers and small bodies of water on the world map, opening up new areas to explore.
Next Steps: Return to Kazus and speak with Cid. With the curse lifted, he can operate his airship properly. The blacksmith can now install a Mythril Ram on the airship, allowing you to break through rocks blocking the way to new areas.
Treasure Chests
Castle Sasune has 10 chests and the Sealed Cave has 5 chests for a total of 15 chests in this chapter. None are missable.
