Castle Argus

With Hein defeated and the Fang of Wind secured, it's time to visit Castle Argus and continue your quest. This chapter covers the village of Tokkul's hidden items, Castle Argus exploration including the Thief job unlock, and the chocobo village of Gysahl.

Tokkul Village

Before heading to Castle Argus, thoroughly explore Tokkul village for hidden items. These are spread throughout the village and easy to miss.

Western Grass Area

Search the grassy patches on the west side of Tokkul to find Bacchus's Cider, Hi-Potion, and Lamia Scale (hidden items 22-24/61).

East Side

On the east side of the village, search for an Ice Staff (hidden item 25/61) - a useful weapon for your mages.

North House

Enter the house in the northern part of town. Near the fireplace, you'll find a hidden Sansetsukon (hidden item 26/61). The house also contains a Kenpo Gi and Phoenix Down in chests (122-123/367).

Castle Argus

Head to Castle Argus and speak with King Argus in the throne room. He gives you the Wheel of Time, a key item needed to progress the story. After receiving it, explore the castle thoroughly for treasure.

4F Hidden Path

On the fourth floor, look for a hidden path that leads to two chests containing Bomb Fragment and Antarctic Wind (124-125/367).

Wall Path

Follow the path along the outer wall to find a chest with a Tranquilizer (126/367).

Torch Passage

In the passage lit by torches, you'll find three chests each containing 1000 Gil (127-129/367).

Small Room Near Stairs

A small treasure room near the stairs contains six chests: three with 3000 Gil, one with 1500 Gil, and two with 100 Gil (130-135/367). This room alone nets you 10,700 Gil.

Western Tower - Thief Job

The Western Tower is locked. To access it, you need a character with the Thief job equipped. If you obtained Thief from the Fire Crystal, switch one party member now. Use the Thief's lockpicking ability to open the tower door.

Job Tip: The Thief job can open locked doors without needing keys. Keep a Thief in your party when exploring dungeons and towns - many locked areas contain valuable treasures.

Inside the Western Tower, talk to the White Mage NPC. She gives you 2 Elixirs (hidden items 27-28/61) - don't miss this conversation!

The tower chests contain Light Arrow, Phoenix Down, and Ice Helm (136-138/367).

Eastern Tower

The Eastern Tower doesn't require Thief access. Inside you'll find equipment useful for Scholar builds: Scholar Robe, Book of Ice, Book of Fire, Book of Light, Fire Arrow, and Ice Arrow (139-144/367).

Gysahl Village

After Castle Argus, travel to Gysahl - the famous chocobo village. This small settlement is known for Gysahl Greens, the favorite food of chocobos, and has several important items to collect.

Southeastern Grass

Search the grass in the southeastern area to find 2 Magic Keys and 1 Gysahl Greens (hidden items 29-31/61). Magic Keys are useful for opening locked chests without needing Thief.

Center House

Inside the center house, check the jars to find 2 Gysahl Greens (hidden items 32-33/61). Stock up - you'll want these for summoning chocobos from Chocobo Woods later.

Item Shop - Shuriken

Important: In the item shop, look for a hidden path behind the counter. This leads to a chest containing a Shuriken (145/367). DO NOT SELL this Shuriken - it's a unique throwing weapon that deals massive damage and cannot be purchased. Save it for tough boss fights later in the game.
