With the Nautilus in hand, you can now explore more of the world map. Your next destination is the Dalg Continent, a remote landmass where the ancient mage Doga resides. Here you'll gain the ability to explore underwater and access new areas.
Dalg Overworld
The Dalg Continent has a unique set of enemies compared to other regions. Before heading to Doga's Manor, you may want to grind some levels and fill out your bestiary.
Bestiary
Enemies on the Dalg Continent overworld:
- Frostfly - Ice-based flying enemy, weak to Fire
- Simurgh - Large bird, high HP and attack power
- Harpy - Flying enemy that can confuse party members
- Gargoyle - Stone creature with high physical defense, use magic
- Chimera - Multi-headed beast with various elemental attacks
The Chimera is particularly dangerous with its ability to use different elemental attacks. Keep your party healed and be ready for any element. Gargoyles have high physical defense, so rely on magic against them.
Doga's Manor
Doga's Manor is home to one of the ancient mages who shaped the world. The manor is relatively peaceful compared to other dungeons, serving more as a story location than a combat challenge.
Meeting Doga
Doga is one of Noah's students, along with Unei and Xande. He explains the history of the world and the threat posed by Xande, who seeks to freeze time itself. Doga offers to help you on your quest, but first you must prove yourself.
To continue, you'll need to shrink down using the Mini spell and enter the Cave of the Circle. This lets you access a small passage that leads to the next part of your quest.
Cave of the Circle
The Cave of the Circle is accessed from within Doga's Manor and requires the Mini status to enter. Make sure at least one party member has the Mini spell before attempting this dungeon. Once inside, you'll fight enemies while miniaturized.
Bestiary
Enemies in the Cave of the Circle:
- Demon Horse - Fast and hits hard despite the mini-sized dungeon
- Rock Gargoyle - Stone enemy, high defense
- Bovian - Beast-type enemy with charging attacks
- Dread Knight - Armored enemy with high attack
- Flyer Mage - Casts offensive magic, prioritize killing
Despite being in Mini form, your party maintains its combat effectiveness. The cave is short. Get used to the Mini mechanic here, because you'll use it again later.
Completing the Trial
Work your way to the cave's end. There are no treasure chests here, but completing the trial is necessary to progress the story. After proving yourself, return to Doga to receive your reward.
The Submarine
Doga rewards you with the ability to transform your Nautilus into a submarine. This is a major upgrade. The Nautilus can now dive underwater, letting you explore a whole new world beneath the waves.
To use the submarine function, simply fly the Nautilus over deep water and select the option to dive. You'll submerge and can explore underwater locations, caves, and hidden areas that were previously inaccessible.
Underwater Exploration
The underwater world is large and filled with new enemies. Take some time to explore and fill out your bestiary before tackling the next story objectives.
Underwater Bestiary
Enemies encountered while exploring underwater:
- Noggle - Aquatic creature, common encounter
- Abtu - Fish-type enemy with moderate stats
- Kagura - Dangerous underwater enemy with high attack
- Charybdis - Reference to the mythical whirlpool monster, powerful foe
Underwater combat follows the same rules as surface battles. Lightning magic is particularly effective against aquatic enemies if you have Thunder spells.
Key Underwater Locations
With the submarine, several important locations become accessible:
- Temple of Time - Required for the main story, wake Unei
- Sunken Cave - Optional dungeon with powerful equipment
- Various underwater caves - Contain treasure and bestiary entries
The Temple of Time should be your next destination for story progression, but feel free to explore the optional underwater caves for extra loot and experience.
Before Moving On
Before leaving the Dalg Continent region, make sure you've accomplished the following:
- Found the hidden Hi-Potion in Doga's Manor bookshelf
- Completed the Cave of the Circle while miniaturized
- Obtained the submarine ability for the Nautilus
- Encountered all 5 overworld enemies (Frostfly, Simurgh, Harpy, Gargoyle, Chimera)
- Encountered all 4 underwater enemies (Noggle, Abtu, Kagura, Charybdis)
The underwater world opens up significant exploration opportunities. The next chapter covers the Temple of Time, where you'll wake the ancient mage Unei and continue your quest to stop Xande.
Treasure Summary
This chapter has minimal treasure - just 1 hidden item (Hi-Potion in Doga's Manor). The focus here is on story progression and gaining access to underwater exploration through the submarine. Future chapters will have more significant loot as you explore the underwater locations.
