Temple of Time

With the submarine from Doga's Manor, you can now explore the underwater world. Your next objective is the Temple of Time to obtain Noah's Lute, which will wake Unei from her enchanted sleep. This chapter also covers the optional Sunken Cave, which contains excellent Diamond-tier equipment and rare bestiary entries.

Temple of Time

The Temple of Time sits on a small island in the northeast section of the map. Use the submarine to surface near the island, then land and enter the temple. The enemies here are significantly stronger than previous dungeons.

Bestiary Entries

  • Dira (Entry 126) - Flying enemy, weak to Wind
  • Dryad (Entry 127) - Plant-type, weak to Fire
  • Pugman (Entry 128) - Physical attacker
  • Kyklops (Entry 129) - High HP, slow
  • Fachan (Entry 130) - Uses status effects
  • Haniel (Entry 131) - Casts offensive magic
  • Thanatos (Entry 132) - Undead, weak to Fire and Cure
  • Dragon (Entry 133) - Powerful physical attacks, high HP

Floor 1

From the entrance, follow the left path to find a Diamond Helm. The temple layout is straightforward but watch for the Dragons - they hit hard and have substantial HP. Use your strongest -aga level spells or Summoner magic to take them down quickly.

Floor 2

On the second floor, grab the Diamond Bracers from the upper section and the Defender sword from the right side. The Defender is an excellent weapon for Knights that sometimes blocks attacks automatically.

Floor 3 and Hidden Path

The third floor has three visible chests containing Diamond Mail, Orichalcum, and Diamond Gloves. However, the real treasures are hidden.

Hidden Path: On B3, look for a section of wall that appears solid but can be walked through. This hidden passage leads to three excellent items: the Lamia Harp (useful for Bards), and two Protect Rings that provide immunity to instant death attacks. Don't miss these - the Protect Rings are critical for surviving the endgame bosses.

After collecting all the treasures, proceed to the inner sanctum where you'll find Noah's Lute. This key item allows you to wake Unei from her cursed sleep. There's no boss fight here - simply grab the lute and exit the temple.

Waking Unei

Return to Unei's shrine west of the Temple of Water. Use Noah's Lute to wake her. Unei thanks you and gives you the Fang of Fire, the third of the four fangs needed to break the seal on the Ancients' Maze. She also tells you about the Invincible, an ancient airship that can cross mountains - but first, she needs you to find it in the Ancient Ruins.

Optional: Sunken Cave

Before heading to the Ancient Ruins, consider exploring the Sunken Cave. This optional dungeon accessible via submarine contains some of the best equipment available at this point in the game, including the Blood Lance and Aegis Shield.

Sunken Cave Bestiary

  • Dozmare (Entry 115) - Water-based enemy
  • Remora (Entry 116) - Can inflict Slow
  • Merman (Entry 117) - Standard aquatic enemy
  • Sea Devil (Entry 118) - Casts water magic
  • Ruler of the Sea (Entry 119) - Powerful, summons allies
  • Aegir (Entry 120) - Rare encounter, high stats

Monster-in-a-Box Encounters

The Sunken Cave contains four chests guarded by powerful enemies. These function as mini-boss fights and are required for bestiary completion:

Eater
Entry 138

Guards the Defender chest on B1. Uses physical attacks and can Devour party members for instant death. Defeat it quickly with strong magic.

Zombie Dragon
Entry 148

Guards the Diamond Gloves on B3. Undead dragon, weak to Fire and Cure spells. Has high HP but is slow.

Death Claw
Entry 149

Guards the Ancient Sword on B4. Can inflict Paralysis. Have Echo Herbs or Esuna ready.

Peryton
Entry 155

Guards the Diamond Helm on B4. Flying enemy, weak to Wind. Uses powerful physical attacks.

Hidden Path on B3

Hidden Path: On B3 of the Sunken Cave, walk through the east wall to find a secret area containing four powerful items: Blood Lance, Aegis Shield, Reflective Mail, and Triton Hammer. The Blood Lance drains HP from enemies and is excellent for Dragoons. The Aegis Shield provides magic evasion and is one of the best shields in the game.

The Sunken Cave is worth clearing completely before moving on. The equipment found here will make the upcoming Ancient Ruins and Cave of Shadows significantly easier.
