Tozus

Tozus is a village of tiny people hidden in the forest south of Dragon's Peak. You can't enter at normal size - cast Mini on your party before approaching to shrink down and fit through the entrance.

Warning: While Mini status allows you to enter Tozus and navigate small passages, it severely weakens your party in combat. Your physical attacks deal minimal damage, and you take increased damage from enemies. Avoid random encounters when possible, or rely heavily on magic which isn't affected by Mini status.

Entering Tozus

Cast Mini from your spell menu while standing on the world map near Tozus. Your entire party shrinks. Now approach the village entrance - you'll be small enough to walk right in.

The village of Tozus is populated by gnomes who live their entire lives at this tiny scale. They have shops, an inn, and plenty of secrets to discover.

Hidden Items

Tozus has 4 hidden items tucked away in house bookshelves. These won't show on your minimap, so check every bookshelf you find.

  • Fire Staff: Check the bookshelves in the houses. Excellent weapon for your Black Mage.
  • Mythril Bracers: Another bookshelf hidden item. Solid defensive upgrade.
  • Vest: Light armor hidden in a bookshelf.
  • Cura: The upgraded healing spell, found in a bookshelf. Teach this to your White Mage immediately.

The Cura spell is particularly valuable - it heals significantly more than basic Cure and will carry your party through several dungeons.

Village Chests

Beyond the hidden items, Tozus has 2 regular treasure chests visible on your minimap.

Mythril Bracers

Mythril Rod

The Mythril Bracers provide good defense for your mages, while the Mythril Rod is a serviceable weapon for your White Mage.

The Sick Villager

In one of the houses, you'll find a gnome lying in bed, ill from poison. If you have an Antidote in your inventory (and you should from earlier dungeons), use it on the sick villager.

As thanks for curing them, the villager opens a shortcut through the back of the house. This passage leads directly to the Tozus Tunnel, saving you from having to navigate around the long way.

Tip: Stock up on Antidotes before entering Tozus Tunnel. The enemies there can poison your party members, and you don't want to be caught without a cure.

Tozus Tunnel

The tunnel connects Tozus to the outside world and leads toward Vikings' Cove. You must remain in Mini status to traverse it.

Bestiary Entries

Two new enemies appear exclusively in Tozus Tunnel. Make sure to encounter both for bestiary completion.

  • Leprechaun (024): Small magical creatures that can cast spells. Prioritize them in battle.
  • Demonface (025): Floating demon heads. They can inflict status effects, so take them down quickly.

Combat Strategy

Fighting while Mini is tough. Your physical attacks are nearly useless, so shift entirely to magic.

  • Black Mage: Your primary damage dealer. Use Fire, Blizzard, or Thunder spells.
  • White Mage: Focus on healing. Cure and Cura keep your fragile Mini party alive.
  • Red Mage: Can handle both offensive and healing magic as needed.
  • Warriors/Monks: Their physical attacks are weak while Mini. Have them use items or defend.

If you run low on MP, use Ethers or head back to the Tozus inn to rest. The tunnel isn't long, but every fight drains resources when you can't rely on physical attacks.

Exiting Mini Status

Once you exit Tozus Tunnel on the other side, cast Mini again on your party to return to normal size. You'll be near Vikings' Cove, your next destination. Make sure to return to normal size before engaging in any serious combat - Mini status is a severe handicap outside of the areas that require it.

Treasure Summary

Tozus has 2 chests (Mythril Bracers, Mythril Rod) and 4 hidden items (Fire Staff, Mythril Bracers, Vest, Cura). The Cura spell from the hidden items is the most important pickup in this chapter - it significantly improves your healing capabilities for the dungeons ahead.

With Tozus cleared and the tunnel traversed, head to Vikings' Cove to obtain the Enterprise ship.
