With the bridge repaired, the northern continent opens up. Two destinations matter right now: Matoya's Cave to the north and the port town of Pravoka to the east. The enemies here are tougher than Cornelia. Ogres deal heavy damage, Lizards have enough defense to drag out fights, and Gigas Worms are weak to Fire. Check the bestiary for full enemy stats. If your HP gets low, head back to Cornelia's Inn.

Matoya's Cave
Head north from the bridge and you'll find a cave entrance. Inside lives Matoya, a blind witch who's lost her Crystal Eye. She can't see a thing without it, and her enchanted brooms - which walk backwards and speak in reverse - aren't much help finding it.

You can't help her yet. The Crystal Eye is in Astos's possession, and you won't deal with him until the Elfheim section. For now, grab the treasure on the left side of her cave: two Potions and an Antidote. Not much, but free is free.
The trek back through Ogre territory can be rough. Consider returning to Cornelia to rest before pushing east to Pravoka.
Pravoka
Follow the coastline east from Matoya's Cave. Pravoka is a port town with a pirate problem - Bikke and his crew have taken over, and the townspeople aren't happy about it. Hit the Inn first (50 Gil) and save your game.

Shopping in Pravoka
The weapon shop sells the Broadsword (450 Gil) for your Warrior or Red Mage. If you've got the Gil, the Iron Armor (640 Gil) is a major defensive boost for your front line. Leather Gloves cost almost nothing at 50 Gil each - buy four since everyone can equip them.
The magic shops carry Level 2 spells. Temper buffs Attack power - stack it on your Warrior before boss fights for extra damage. Pick up Invis too if you have spare Gil; raising Evasion helps against physical-heavy enemies.
The Pirates
In the northwest corner of town, you'll find Bikke the pirate captain surrounded by his crew. Talk to him and he'll sic all nine of his pirates on you at once.

Nine enemies sounds intimidating. It isn't.

Your Ship
Beat the pirates and a humbled Bikke hands over his ship without a fight. You might also get a Leather Shield as a drop from the battle.

The inner sea is now open for exploration. You'll run into Sahagins, Sharks, and Buccaneers while sailing - almost all of them are weak to Lightning. If you didn't buy Thunder in Cornelia, head back and grab it. The sea enemies give decent XP and Gil, and you can dock anytime to heal.
Setting Sail for Elfheim
Your next destination is the elven town of Elfheim. From Pravoka, sail west past Cornelia, then follow the coastline south. You'll find a port on the western continent - dock there and walk inland to reach the town.
Before you set off, make sure you're prepared. Rest at an Inn, stock up on Potions (aim for 20 or so) and grab some Antidotes. Double-check that your mages have the key spells: Cure, Fire, Thunder, and Temper. Elfheim is longer than this section, and the Marsh Cave will punish you if you go in unprepared.
Treasure Chests
Matoya's Cave has 3 chests on the left side. All are accessible now — no keys required.
