Introduction

The Piscodemons are your third boss encounter in Final Fantasy 1 Pixel Remaster. Four demon fish guard the Crown in Marsh Cave's deepest level. This fight is significantly harder than the Pravoka Pirates, with each enemy hitting much harder and having real defensive stats.

Strategy

Each Piscodemon has 84 HP with 16 Defense and a massive 98 Magic Defense. With 30 Attack power, four of them attacking can quickly overwhelm your party. Focus on eliminating them one at a time.

Battle Plan

  • Focus fire - Kill one Piscodemon at a time to reduce incoming damage
  • Warriors/Monks - Use physical attacks; magic is mostly resisted
  • Black Mage - Thunder works; Fire and Ice are resisted
  • White Mage - Heal anyone below 40 HP; cast Invis to boost evasion

Quick Tips

  • Magic is weak here - 98 Magic Defense means spells do reduced damage. Stick to physical attacks and Thunder if needed.
  • Status effects don't work - They resist Sleep, Paralysis, Stone, and most other status ailments.
  • Buff your attackers - Haste and Temper on your Warrior or Monk maximize damage against their 16 Defense.

After the Battle

After defeating the Piscodemons, you automatically receive the Crown. Return to Elfheim and deliver it to the Western Keep where Astos awaits (disguised as the King). This advances the story toward obtaining the Crystal Eye and waking the Elf Prince.
