Upon entering Jade Passage, you will have visited all 27 locations in Final Fantasy 2. This marks the completion of your world exploration - only the final dungeon remains.

Jade Passage Overview
Jade Passage is a 5-floor dungeon with 14 treasure chests and 14 enemy types (11 new). The passage is known for its deadly waterfall traps and three powerful dragon bosses guarding the best treasures. A mage also waits deep within, selling the most powerful spell tomes in the game.
New enemies in Jade Passage include:
- Abyss Worm - Massive worm with high HP, use magic
- Blue Dragon - Boss enemy, weak to Poison, absorbs Lightning
- Chimera Sphinx - Powerful hybrid beast with multiple attacks
- Great Malboro - Even deadlier Bad Breath can devastate your party
- Hecteyes - Multi-eyed horror with status-inflicting gaze attacks
- Ice Lizard - Uses powerful ice attacks, weak to Fire
- King Behemoth - Boss enemy, no weaknesses, extremely powerful
- Mega Parasite - Drains HP and can inflict status ailments
- Pit Fiend - Demonic enemy with powerful magic
- Red Dragon - Boss enemy, weak to Ice, absorbs Fire
- Salamander - Fire-based lizard, use Ice magic
Great Malboros are even more dangerous than regular Malboros. Their Bad Breath inflicts multiple status ailments simultaneously and can completely stunlock your party. Have Esuna at maximum level and consider running from Great Malboro groups unless you're confident in your status resistance. A single unlucky encounter can wipe your party.
Jade Passage
Floors B1-B2: Entrance and Waterfalls
On the first floor (B1), the winding corridors introduce you to the passage's dangerous inhabitants. In the entrance passage, collect chest 1 (Elixir) - save it for emergencies during the boss fights ahead. Before descending, check the side alcove to find chest 2 (Ether). The stairs to B2 are located in the south-central area of the floor.
The second floor (B2) introduces one of Jade Passage's unique hazards: damaging waterfalls. Walking through the cascading water damages your entire party. Navigate carefully to minimize exposure.
The waterfalls in Jade Passage deal damage to your entire party each time you step through them. Plan your route carefully to minimize waterfall crossings, and heal immediately after passing through. Don't let the environmental damage drain your resources before the boss fights.
Near the waterfall, collect chest 3 (Cottage) - use it before the first boss fight to fully restore your party. A hidden passage leads to chest 4 (Hi-Potion). The stairs to B3 are on the far side of the floor, past the waterfall section.
Blue Dragon Boss
The third floor (B3) contains two of the three dragon bosses guarding valuable treasures. The first dragon boss guards chest 5. Approach the chest to trigger the encounter with the Blue Dragon (HP: 3500). This dragon is weak to Poison and absorbs Lightning, so do NOT use Thunder spells. Cast Shell immediately to reduce magic damage, use Blink to dodge physical attacks, and exploit its Poison weakness with Scourge/Bio if available. Physical attacks work well - use your strongest weapons. After defeating the Blue Dragon, open chest 5 to obtain Dragon Mail - excellent armor for your frontline fighter.
King Behemoth Boss
The second guardian on B3 is the King Behemoth (HP: 5000), one of the toughest fights in the game. This beast has no weaknesses and deals devastating physical damage. Cast Protect on all party members immediately - this is CRITICAL. Use Blink to create afterimages to dodge its brutal attacks, and cast Berserk on your heavy hitters to maximize damage. Dedicate one party member to full-time healing and use Elixirs if necessary. Do NOT let anyone's HP drop below half. Defeating the King Behemoth rewards you with chest 6 containing the Aegis Shield - one of the best shields in the game with high magic defense. Don't forget chest 7 (Phoenix Down) in the west chamber before descending.
Floor B4: Genji Equipment
The fourth floor (B4) contains three pieces of the legendary Genji equipment set. In the center passage, collect chest 8 (Genji Helm). The east room contains chest 9 (Genji Armor), and the west room holds chest 10 (Genji Gloves). Equip the Genji set on your primary physical attacker - the combined defensive bonuses are substantial.
Genji equipment collected on B4:
- Genji Helm - B4, center passage
- Genji Armor - B4, east room
- Genji Gloves - B4, west room
Red Dragon Boss
The deepest floor (B5) contains the final dragon boss, a mage selling the most powerful spell tomes, and the teleporter to Castle Pandaemonium. The Red Dragon (HP: 5000) guards chest 11. This fierce opponent uses powerful fire-based attacks including Firaga and Blaze, and absorbs all Fire damage. Exploit its Ice weakness with Blizzard/Blizzara/Blizzaga for massive damage, cast Shell to reduce fire magic damage, and equip the Ice Brand if you have it. After defeating the Red Dragon, claim chest 11 containing the Cat Claw - a powerful weapon with high attack power.
The Mage Shop
Deep within B5, you'll find a Mage who sells the most powerful spell tomes in the game:
- Berserk Tome - Dramatically increases attack power
- Death Tome - Instant kill on susceptible enemies
- Flare Tome - Powerful non-elemental damage
- Haste Tome - Increases action speed
Haste and Berserk are critical for the final boss battles. Haste allows more actions per turn, while Berserk dramatically increases physical damage. Flare is useful against magic-resistant enemies in Pandaemonium. Death can instantly kill some random encounters but doesn't work on bosses.
Before leaving B5, collect the remaining chests: Chest 12 (Ribbon) in a hidden alcove - this prevents all status ailments and is one of the most valuable items in the game. Equip it on your healer to ensure they can always cure the rest of the party. Chest 13 (Elixir) is near the mage shop, and Chest 14 (Megalixir) is before the Pandaemonium portal - it fully restores your entire party.
Portal to Pandaemonium
At the end of B5, you'll find a teleporter leading to Castle Pandaemonium - the demonic fortress and final dungeon of Final Fantasy 2.
Once you step through this portal, you cannot return to the world map until the game is complete. This is truly the point of no return.
Make absolutely sure you have:
- Collected all 14 chests in Jade Passage
- Equipped the Ribbon and Genji equipment
- Purchased spell tomes from the mage (especially Haste and Berserk)
- Maximum supplies - Hi-Potions, Elixirs, Ethers, Phoenix Downs
- A backup save you can return to if needed
Step through the portal when ready. Castle Pandaemonium awaits - the Emperor has transformed into the Emperor of Hell, commanding demonic forces beyond imagination. The castle is filled with the most powerful enemies in the game and culminates in the final boss battle. The fate of the world rests on your shoulders.
Treasure Chests
Jade Passage contains 14 treasure chests across 5 floors. Three chests are guarded by dragon bosses and require defeating them first. None are permanently missable, but you cannot return after entering Pandaemonium.
