With the Goddess's Bell in hand and Josef's sacrifice still fresh in your memory, it's time to breach Kashuan Keep and claim the Sunfire. This ancient fortress holds the legendary flame that can destroy the Dreadnought - the Empire's ultimate weapon threatening the rebellion.
Getting to Kashuan Keep
Head to Poft and visit the pub. Speak with Cid's assistant at the far right table and book passage to Kashuan Keep for 400 Gil. Board the airship outside and it'll drop you right at the fortress entrance. You can also walk from Poft (head south through the forest), but the airship is faster since you're down to three party members.

Kashuan Keep is a 5-floor dungeon with 11 treasure chests and one boss fight. The fortress is sealed by a magical flame at the entrance. Approach the door behind the flame and use the Goddess's Bell to unlock it.

Kashuan Keep
Enemies here are a mix of undead and beasts. Watch for these encounters:
- Ogres - heavy hitters, use Protect to reduce damage
- Ogre Mages - cast Sleep 4 and Blizzard 5, prioritize killing these first
- Wererats - come in packs, can Poison
- Ghouls / Ghasts - can inflict Paralysis, weak to Fire
- Shadows / Wraiths - high evasion, use magic to hit reliably
- Goblin Prince - only spawns on 1F exterior, needed for bestiary
Gordon Joins the Party
Follow the entrance path and you'll encounter a man standing in your way. This is Gordon, prince of Kashuan and brother to Scott (the dying prince you met in Fynn's secret pub). Gordon came to retrieve the Sunfire himself but couldn't proceed - he lacks Egil's Torch, a sacred relic needed to safely carry the flame.

Gordon joins your party as the fourth member. He starts with a spear and shield, but his weapon proficiency is low so he won't hit hard initially. Give him any spare gear you have - he'll level up as you progress through the dungeon.
After the scene, continue through the path and descend the stairs to begin exploring the dungeon.
1F - Entrance Hall
Go right to the end of the hallway, then south and down the stairs. From there, head all the way down the right side to find chest 1 (Cure Tome) at the bottom.

Return the way you came and head all the way to the left. You'll see a door at the end - go south from the door and up the stairs to reach 2F.
2F
From the stairs, go right and then down. Continue right toward the bottom right corner, then head up when you can. At the end of this path is chest 2 (500 Gil).

From the chest, head left to the end of the pathway and follow the path around. The stairs to 3F are up ahead.
3F - Golden Shield
From the stairs, head left into the statue room. You'll see three paths heading south. Take the middle path and go left at the bottom to find chest 3 containing the Golden Shield. Opening this chest triggers a fight with 5 Wererats - they can Poison but aren't too dangerous.

Return to the statue room and take the third path (rightmost). Follow it through to reach the stairs leading to 4F.
4F - Mythril Weapons
This floor has the most treasure. The layout splits into two sections - one accessible now, one accessible later.
Head south from the stairs. You'll see two doors - skip the first one and enter the second. Inside are chests 4, 5, and 6:
- Chest 4: Mythril Axe (left)
- Chest 5: Werebuster (middle) - effective against Werebeasts
- Chest 6: Mythril Sword (right)

Exit the room and continue going up and left toward the top left corner. Make your way down and go up the stairs on your right to reach 5F.
Note: Don't head to the door above your current position yet - there's a chest behind it, but you need to access it from a different route later.
5F
From the stairs, hug the right wall and follow it all the way up to the door in the top right corner. Inside are chests 7, 8, and 9:
- Chest 7: Mallet
- Chest 8: Antidote
- Chest 9: Eye Drops

Exit the consumables room, head down, and take the first left. Chest 10 is here, but opening it triggers a battle with 4 Mines and 2 Balloons.
Warning: Mines and Balloons self-destruct! If damaged, their explosion deals massive damage. Strategy: wait for them to use self-destruct and miss (it does nothing if they're at full HP), then burst them down before their next turn.

The chest contains Golden Armor - a solid upgrade. After grabbing it, head south and follow the path left until you reach the stairs in the bottom left corner. Take them down to 4F and enter the nearby door.
Red Soul Boss
Through the door, you'll see a red flame creature standing between you and chest 11 containing Egil's Torch. This is the Red Soul, guardian of the sacred relic.

Weakness: None | Absorbs: Fire, Ice, Lightning, Poison, Psychic, Spectral, Death
CRITICAL: Red Soul ABSORBS all magic! Do NOT use offensive spells - they will heal the boss. Physical attacks are your only option. Even Blizzard, which you might expect to work on a fire creature, will restore its HP.
The key to this battle is patience. Red Soul has 5 magical attacks it will use before running out of MP. After exhausting its MP, it switches to weaker physical attacks. Focus on keeping your party alive through the initial magic barrage with Cure spells, then overwhelm it with physical attacks. Have Gordon and Guy attack every turn while Firion and Maria heal as needed. If you're struggling, grind a few levels to increase your HP and weapon proficiency.

After defeating Red Soul, open chest 11 to obtain Egil's Torch! This sacred item lets you safely carry the Sunfire.

Obtaining the Sunfire
Use Teleport to exit the dungeon instantly (or walk back through if you don't have it). Once outside, re-enter Kashuan Keep. Head straight to the flame at the entrance - the same one you passed when first entering.
Use Egil's Torch on the flame to capture the Sunfire. This legendary flame is the only weapon capable of destroying the Dreadnought's engine.

With the Sunfire secured, leave Kashuan Keep. As you exit, a cutscene triggers - you witness the Dreadnought flying overhead, attacking something in the distance. Hilda and Cid were aboard an airship that got caught in the assault. The situation just became urgent.
Chocobo Forest (Optional)
Before heading to Altair, there's an optional location worth visiting. Head directly south from Kashuan Keep through the forest. Look for a small clearing between the trees - this is the Chocobo Forest.

Note: The Chocobo Forest is a semi-missable location. You can access it anytime after obtaining the Canoe, but it's easy to miss since it's not required for the main story. Visit it now to add it to your location log.
Inside the forest, you can catch and ride a Chocobo. While mounted, you travel faster across the world map and encounter no random battles. The Chocobo returns to the forest when you dismount or enter a town/dungeon.

Return to Altair
From Kashuan Keep or the Chocobo Forest, make your way northeast through the mountains toward Poft. The path winds between mountain ranges - keep heading toward the water to the east. In Poft, note that Cid and his airship are not available - they were captured by the Dreadnought. Speak with the man near the pub dock and book passage on the ship back to Paloom. From Paloom, head southwest and use the Canoe to cross the water to reach Altair.
Back in Altair, head to the rebel hideout. The mood is grim. Speak with the rebels inside and you'll learn that Hilda has been captured - she was aboard Cid's airship when the Dreadnought attacked.

Head upstairs and enter the right room to find Minwu tending to the ailing King. Ask him about Dreadnought. He confirms the situation - Hilda and Cid are prisoners aboard the Empire's warship.
Your mission is clear: infiltrate the Dreadnought, rescue Hilda and Cid, and use the Sunfire to destroy the ship from within.
Next: Dreadnought
The Dreadnought is a one-time dungeon with 10 missable chests. Once you destroy the ship, you cannot return. Make sure you're fully prepared before boarding.
Before leaving Altair:
- Rest at the Inn to restore HP/MP
- Have the Pass from Bafsk Cave - you need it to board the Dreadnought
- Have the Sunfire to destroy the engine
- Stock up on Potions, Hi-Potions, Antidotes, and Phoenix Downs
- Ensure Teleport is learned for quick escape after the mission
- Equip Gordon with your best spare equipment
The Dreadnought is located northwest of Altair. It's a long walk through hostile territory. Save your game before entering - there are missable enemies and the difficulty spikes significantly inside the ship.
Treasure Chests
Kashuan Keep has 11 treasure chests. None are missable - you can return to the keep anytime. Three chests are guarded by monsters.
