Giant of Babil

After meeting FuSoYa at the Crystal Palace, return to the Lunar Whale and use the crystal to travel back to Earth. The Giant of Babil has awakened and is devastating the planet. Your allies from across the world rally to create an opening in the Giant's defenses. Fly into the Giant to enter it.

One-Time Dungeon: The Giant of Babil can't be revisited after completion. There are 8 treasure chests and several enemies that appear nowhere else in the game. Collect everything and fill your bestiary before defeating the final boss.

Missable Bestiary Entries

The following enemies appear only inside the Giant of Babil. Fight enough random encounters to register all of them for 100% bestiary completion:

EnemyHPNotes
Beamer3,000Common throughout
Centaurion3,500Common throughout
Mech Soldier4,900Common throughout
Searcher5,500Later sections; steal Sirens from these
Last Arm9,500Monster-in-a-Box (Elixir chest)
Giant Soldier10,000Appears on lower floors
Mech Dragon18,000Summoned by Searchers

Siren Farming - Do This Now

Critical: Use Edge's Steal on Searchers to obtain Sirens. These items force specific enemy encounters and are required for efficient Pink Tail farming in the Lunar Subterrane. Steal 99 Sirens before leaving the Giant. This is your only opportunity to get them in meaningful quantities.

Searchers spawn in the later sections of the dungeon. Each time you encounter one, have Edge Steal before defeating it. It's tedious, but having a full stack of Sirens saves hours of grinding if you want the Adamant Armor.

Dungeon Navigation

The Giant's interior is divided into several sections: Mouth, Neck, Stomach, and Passage. The path is linear, so follow the corridors and collect all 8 chests along the way.

Mouth and Neck

Enter through the Giant's mouth. The first area contains two chests: Shuriken and Hi-Potion. Continue into the Neck section to find three more chests: Ether, Yoichi Arrow, and a Siren.

Stomach

The Stomach area has two chests containing a Silver Apple and Soma Drop. Both are permanent stat boosters - the Silver Apple increases max HP, while the Soma Drop increases max MP. Consider who benefits most before using them.

Passage

The final section before the control center. One chest here contains an Elixir, but it's guarded by a Last Arm (9,500 HP). This is a Monster-in-a-Box and your only chance to fight this enemy for the bestiary. Defeat it to claim the Elixir.

A save point appears before the boss chamber. Use it. You're about to face five consecutive boss fights with no chance to heal between them.

Boss: The Four Fiends

The four Archfiends you defeated throughout the game return for a rematch, fought back-to-back with no breaks. Conserve resources across all four fights.

Scarmiglione (3,523 HP)

The Archfiend of Earth returns as an undead opponent.

  • Weak to Fire and Holy
  • Firaga and Holy spells deal massive damage
  • Cecil's physical attacks work well since he wields holy weapons
  • Goes down fast - don't waste MP on buffs
Cagnazzo (5,312 HP)

The Archfiend of Water hides in his shell and charges Tsunami.

  • When he retreats into his shell, hit him with Thundara or Thundaga to interrupt Tsunami
  • Weak to Lightning throughout the fight
  • Physical attacks work when he's not in shell form
Barbariccia (8,636 HP)

The Archfiend of Wind wraps herself in a protective tornado.

  • Use Kain's Jump to break her tornado form
  • Physical attacks and magic work normally when she's not spinning
  • If Kain isn't available, wait for her to drop the tornado naturally
Rubicante (34,000 HP)

The Archfiend of Fire is the most honorable and dangerous of the four.

  • Only attack when his cloak is open - attacks while closed are absorbed or reflected
  • Weak to Ice when vulnerable; Blizzaga deals heavy damage
  • He'll periodically heal your party and open his cloak - use this window
  • Has significantly more HP than the other three; this is the longest fight

Boss: CPU

After defeating the Four Fiends, continue to the control center for the final battle inside the Giant.

CPU (30,000 HP) + Attack Node + Defense Node

The Giant's central processor fights alongside two support nodes. Kill order matters here - get it wrong and you'll wipe.

Kill Order (Critical)

  1. Defense Node first - It heals the CPU and removes debuffs
  2. CPU second - Your main target; focus all damage here
  3. Attack Node last - Leave it alive until the CPU dies

Warning

If you destroy the Attack Node before the CPU, the CPU counters with Globe199, an attack that deals 9,999 damage to your entire party. This is almost certainly a party wipe. Keep the Attack Node alive and heal through its damage while focusing the CPU.

Strategy

  • The Attack Node deals moderate damage; Rosa can keep up with healing
  • Use your strongest attacks on the CPU once the Defense Node is down
  • FuSoYa can use Flare or Holy for big damage
  • Cast Slow on the Attack Node to reduce incoming damage

After the Battle

With the CPU destroyed, a major story sequence unfolds. FuSoYa uses his magic to break the mind control spell on Golbez, revealing several plot twists:

  • Golbez and Cecil are brothers - both sons of the Lunarian KluYa
  • Zemus is revealed as the true villain, a Lunarian who manipulated Golbez from the moon
  • FuSoYa and Golbez depart to confront Zemus on the moon
  • Kain's mind control also breaks, and he rejoins your party permanently

The Giant collapses, and you're transported back to the overworld. The path forward leads to the moon for the final confrontation with Zemus.

Treasure Chests

The Giant of Babil contains 8 chests, all permanently missable:

Shuriken
Mouth area, first chest
Hi-Potion
Mouth area, second chest
Ether
Neck section
Yoichi Arrow
Neck section, second chest
Siren
Neck section, third chest
Silver Apple
Stomach area
Soma Drop
Stomach area, second chest
Elixir
Passage area (Monster-in-a-Box: Last Arm)

Before Proceeding

With Kain back in your party and the endgame approaching, now's the time to complete any remaining optional content:

  • Sylph summon - If you haven't woken Yang with the Frying Pan yet, do it now
  • Excalibur - Check Kokkol's Forge; should be ready by now
  • Odin summon - Challenge him in Baron Castle's basement (requires Asura and Leviathan first)
  • Bahamut summon - Cave of Bahamut on the moon

Next Steps

When you're ready for the final dungeon, board the Lunar Whale and return to the moon. The Lunar Subterrane awaits beneath the Crystal Palace - the deepest and most dangerous dungeon in the game.
